(Sports Network) - The Detroit Red Wings seek their third consecutive win tonight when they welcome the Calgary Flames to Joe Louis Arena.

On Monday, Jimmy Howard stepped in and stopped 22 of 24 shots in his first career NHL game, and Detroit snapped Los Angeles' five-game home win streak with a 5-2 victory at the Staples Center.

Steve Yzerman and Nicklas Lidstrom each had a goal and an assist for the Red Wings, who have won three of four after losing four in a row earlier this month. Chris Chelios, Mathieu Schneider and Henrik Zetterberg also scored in the triumph.

Howard was recalled from Grand Rapids of the AHL on Sunday when Detroit placed Manny Legace on injured reserve with a sprained left knee.

The Red Wings, who are 9-3-1 at home, open a three-game stand tonight and will welcome the NY Islanders to town on Sunday.

Calgary, meanwhile, has dropped its last two games on the heels of a 10-1 spurt to begin the month of November. On Tuesday the Flames lost a 2-0 contest in Nashville to open a five-game road trip.

Miikka Kiprusoff posted 15 saves for the Flames, who despite the loss finished November with a 10-2-1 record. The only other contest last month in which the Flames failed to record a point came on the 18th, when they lost to Chicago 5-2.

Calgary was shut out for only the second time this season.

Flames captain Jarome Iginla has not scored a goal in six consecutive games, after he tallied in four straight.

Calgary, which is 4-7-1 on the road, will visit Pittsburgh on Saturday.

Detroit and Calgary have split two games this season, with each team winning in its own rink.
